Mr. Wong Reading

posted Nov 18, 2011, 8:46 AM by Michaela Jacobsen

In Mr. Wong’s reading class, we are reading Holes. We are on chapter 20. Right now, Stanley (the main charcter) just claims that he stole Mr. Sir’s sunflower seed. Mr. Sir took Staney to the Warden. She sovles the problem with violence. For homework, we mostly get questions, money summaries, connections, and spelling. Our first vocabulary test is when we reach about chapter 28. We need to make vocabulary cards to help us study for the test. Mr. Wong is going to collect all the  vocabulary cards at the end of the book.

Mrs. J's Reading

We do a lot of fun stuff in reading that you might want to know about. First, we have Latin and/or Greek roots. In Latin and Greek roots we have papers with trees on them, and we have a base that is a root. Then, we have multiple words and we need to find the definition, and a sentence to go along with it. Recently, we had our second trees test. Our trees test was about all the Latin and Greek roots that we have been studying and their definitions. We also are reading Holes by Louis Sachar and the book is about holes. In Holes the protagonist is a boy named Stanley Yelnats, and the antagonist is a lot of things such as Camp Green Lake, the warden, and Mr. Sir. With Holes we also get a packet that we need to do in a certain amount of time and then turn it in. We always do a lot of vocabulary like the words protagonist and antagonist. Mrs. Jacobson always makes us do vocabulary because she says that the more words we know it will help us in life. We just handed in our Homeless project. That is when you have to search up on the web and find facts about the homeless. Well as you see we do a lot of very fun stuff in reading.

Would you like to know what we are learning in science? Well, I will tell you. First, we are using our science textbook. We have just finished the chapters about wind and space. In all, we are on our earth and space unit. Second, we had two tests so far over the last two months. They were about wind and space. Third, we learned about wind and space. We learned what forms wind and the different kinds of wind. Also, we learned how the moon and earth are alike. Lastly, in the future, we will learn about the planets. I hope you now know what we are doing!

Hello Parents and Friends,

Would you like to know what your children are learning about history in school? Well,

you have come to the right place! First, we have started learning about the first Americans that

came to the Americas. In class we discussed and read about many different types of tribes of the

Native Americans and all their adaptations. Second, made posters in early September. These

explained various facts about different tribes. This was in our paperback book. The other book

we are reading is the hardback book called The First Americans. Third, we just had our test on

history. It was about all the things we learned about the Native American tribes. We will be

 continuing learning about the Indians!

Physical education can not only make kids and adults healthier, but it can also make you smarter. At Faria A+ Elementary School, we have been doing many things to keep the children healthy and smart. We usually start with running, then physical activities. Frisbee-throwing, over-hand throwing, and under-hand throwing. Some games we play are “Papparazi” and “Capture the Frisbee.” We also count our heart beats.
